چکیده
At 33 weeks of pregnancy, a 29-year-old woman presented with uterine contractions. A transabdominal obstetrical sonogram with Doppler revealed severe hydrocephalus secondary to a large avascular third ventricular mass (Fig 1A). Delivery by cesarean section at 34 weeks revealed marked macrocephaly, widely separated sutures, and tense fontanelles. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the infant’s brain revealed an enhancing slightly corrugated mass in the third ventricle with dilatation of the lateral ventricles, intraventricular hemorrhage (Figs 1B, 2, and 3), and an occipital subgaleal collection, which communicated with the left lateral ventricle consistent with a pseudomeningocele (Figs 2–4A). Surgery was not performed because of the patient’s poor medical condition. At 10 days of life, the occipital pseudomeningocele spontaneously ruptured, causing leakage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) onto the scalp, an event that ultimately led to the infant’s death. Autopsy revealed a 2.5 3 2 3 2-cm discrete spherical mass in the posterior third ventricle. The mass was compressing the midbrain and aqueduct, causing severe sec-

Unusual Radiologic Findings and Pathologic Growth Patterns on Choroid Plexus Papillomas
OBJECTIVE Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are generally regarded as benign tumors with typical radiologic and pathologic findings. However, they sometimes have unusual findings. We have analyzed radiologic findings and pathologic growth patterns on CPPs. METHODS The study group included 5 male and 5 female patients (age range, 3 months to 58 years : median, 29 years). The study group include...
متن کاملMalignant progression in choroid plexus papillomas.
OBJECT Malignant progression of choroid plexus papillomas has been occasionally reported, but this issue has not yet been systematically addressed. METHODS Frequency and extent of malignant progression were examined in a retrospective series of 124 primary choroid plexus papillomas using uniform histological criteria. RESULTS After gross-total resection and a mean follow-up period of 59 mon...
متن کاملChoroid Plexus Neoplasms: Toward a Distinction between Carcinoma and Papilloma Using Arterial Spin-Labeling.
Pediatric choroid plexus papillomas and carcinomas are highly vascularized neoplasms, which are difficult to distinguish with conventional imaging. We aimed to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of PWI, by using both pseudocontinuous arterial spin-labeling and DSC-PWI. We reviewed the PWI of 13 children with choroid plexus neoplasms (7 papillomas and 6 carcinomas). We quantified CBF, relative CBF,...

متن کاملChoroid plexus infections: neuroimaging appearances of four cases.
The choroid plexus is an important central nervous system (CNS) structure that is often neglected in pathologic and radiologic studies of intracranial diseases. The choroid plexus may serve as 1) a portal of entry for pathogens into the CNS, 2) a target for various systemic disorders, 3) a reflector of various diseases that affect the brain and meninges, or 4) a site of primary processes such a...
